FREE Community Movie Day ~ Monday, March 31st

harrypotter2Friends of SW Charter presents…our annual FREE Community Movie Day on Monday, March 31st at 1:30 pm at the Clinton Street Theater.

While we are celebrating our last day of Spring Break, Hogwarts is in session! This year we are showing the 1st Harry Potter movie — Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone!

Costumes are highly encouraged! Come dressed as your favorite wizard in training, professor or magical creature.

cbb3Admission is free of charge, but we do encourage you to donate a new or gently used book to our book drive benefiting the Children’s Book Bank.

Over spring break, take a look through your child’s books. Are there any titles she has outgrown or never showed much interested in? If so, the Children’s Book Bank would love to have your gently used books to make available to children who do not have books in their own homes.

A recent study shows that while in middle-income neighborhoods the ratio of age-appropriate books per child is 13 to 1, in low-income neighborhoods the ratio is 1 for every 300 children. The Children’s Book Bank strives to improve the literacy skills of low-income children by giving them books of their own. To do this, the Children’s Book Bank collects, repairs, and packages used books. The books are then made available to families in need — free of charge. Here are some guidelines for the types of books that are especially needed.
