Thanks to everyone who came to community movie day on March 31st at the Clinton Street Theater to watch Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone. A great time was had by wizards and muggles alike!
Today we collected almost 50 books for the Children’s Book Bank, which makes books available to children in the Portland area who don’t have books of their own at home.
For the next 2 weeks, we will continue to collect new and gently used books to benefit The Children’s Book Bank. Beginning Tuesday, April 1st and continuing through Friday, April 11th, we’ll be accepting donations of new and gently used books in the main lobby. Look for the bin in the main lobby near Kathy’s desk.
The Children’s Book Bank envisions a society in which all children, regardless of means, are surrounded by and experience books during their early years of development.
They gather thousands of new and gently-used books from the community and organize volunteers to spruce up and sort donated books. The Children’s Book Bank then creates individual bags filled with books and stories and delivers books to children who might not otherwise have books of their own at home.
Doing some spring cleaning? Perhaps you have books at home that your children have outgrown or are no longer interested in. Please consider donating them during our drive.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Board books, picture books, books about numbers, colors, animals, shapes and words, storybooks, rhyming books, Dr. Seuss books, and books in Spanish are greatly needed.
- Chapter books in great condition for elementary and middle school students are also welcome.
- Please, no encyclopedias, no musty or damaged books, and no school textbooks.
Thank you so much for your help in supporting this wonderful organization!
