Students in Teacher Sarah’s class have won Project Citizen again this year! Project Citizen is a unique curriculum where students work together to identify a public policy issue in their community and develop an action plan for local government leaders to use in addressing the issue. The work culminates with a class portfolio that is presented at the state capitol in Salem.
Their class project focused on a formal push for a citywide smoking ban in Portland public parks. The students have the support of State Rep. Mitch Greenlick and have contacted the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. The class started an online petition as well.
