Open Positions
There are still several open positions on the Friends Board including President (2015-2016), Vice President (2015-2016), Secretary (now), Treasurer (2015-2016).
We will do some blog posts about the open positions and committees to highlight what is available and needs to be filled.
Staff Appreciation Committee Update
The November 19th work party went well. There are still some bigger projects, like painting, that need to be completed. Melissa will talk with Amanda about getting these scheduled. The deep cleaning of classrooms really helped.
The Staff Holiday Party will probably be at Amanda’s house. We’ll do a sign up soon. Melissa will talk with Amanda about getting this planned.
Community Life Committee Update
We have a Family Restaurant Night Monday, February 9th at Hopworks Urban Brewery (29th & SE Powell). To get donation to school, you must mention to your server that you are from SWCS.
Black Friday roller skating was a big success. We had about 60 people attend. We needed about 32 kids to meet our minimum.
We don’t have our Pizzicato Dough for Dollars numbers yet. Par-baked school pickup orders were around $400 plus we’ll receive 20% from the day’s sales at Hillsdale location.
Auction
Juli is working hard at finding an auction MC outside our school community. She is trying to get family friend, Storm Large. Juli is also working on planning a live item with Storm Large. If this doesn’t work out, Juli has some other ideas.
School has 30 Apple G4 servers that need to be liquidated. We may use these as an incentive and sell at a reduced price during auction ticket presale.
Class art projects are the big push right now. Mandy O’Donnell is coordinating. She sent out an email via class reps to get the word out. There is a Pinterest board with class art project ideas. Juli will send out the link.
Hanne showed some pictures of class art projects from St. John Fisher’s recent auction. There were several cute ideas! Thank you Hanne!
Since it is always difficult to find an art project for the 7/8th graders, perhaps we should have them brainstorm their own art project ideas.
Sponsorships are going well! We now have Zidell as a presenting sponsor at the $5,000 level. We also have Hillside Imports, Mr. Greenbeans, Mobile West, Path Construction, Verde Cocina, and Trailhead Credit Union. We have already surpassed the amount of sponsorships we had last year.
We received a case of wine from A to Z winery. Ryan Wist is trying to get wine from his family. We are also in touch with other wineries to get wine for tables.
Juli is looking for anyone who has vacation homes available for the auction. If you or anyone you know has a vacation home for rent, please contact Juli.
Christina suggested looking through Parent Resource Directory to give ideas on additional people to ask for an auction donation.
Nicki has volunteered to coordinate Sign Up/Slot Parties!
Financial Update
We’re doing well. So far this year, we have spent $838 on mostly the block party and staff gifts. We’ve made $1750 from Chinook Books and T-shirt sales.
We don’t have the Pizzicato numbers yet. Will have for our January meeting.
Hanne shared information about the poinsettia fundraiser that they did at Alberta Rider Elementary. The plants were inexpensive and very nice quality. Juli will contact Krista about the details. We may consider this as a future fundraiser.
Final Community Comments
Another fundraising idea was to have a Carnival/Fun Night at school. Sounds like fun!
