October is coming and that means it’s time for the SWCS Arts Parkrun (previously known as Run 4 the Arts). In years past, SW Charter has used Run 4 the Arts/Young Audiences as an organizing structure.

Each year we have been successful in attaining our goal of raising $20,000, but we have had to pay 15% of that money to Young Audiences. This year, the Arts Parkrun Committee has developed an in-house program to maximize our fundraising potential. This means that 100% of the proceeds raised from the Parkrun will go directly to art programming at SWCS.

Please join us in reaching our annual goal of $20,000! We hope that each family will participate in the SWCS Arts Parkrun to the best of its ability. With 196 students, if each family raises at least $100, we will achieve our goal.

We know it can feel awkward to ask loved ones and neighbors for money. We have a few suggestions to help mitigate this uncomfortable feeling. Firstly, we have included a link to a video about the SWCS Arts Parkrun. Please blast this video on social media and add it to your email requesting sponsorship from those near and far. Secondly, although this year as a school we can only accept cash and checks, you can set up your own PayPal account and sponsors can pay you electronically and you can write one check to SWCS.

Your child(ren) received pledge sheets in their classroom and were treated to an entertaining skit about how to get pledges. Here are some important dates to remember:

• Friday, September 16 : Friday, September 30 ~ Collect pledges
• Friday, September 30 : Return completed pledge form to your child’s teacher
• Wednesday, October 5 : Join us for the SWCS Arts Parkrun at Caruthers Park!
• Monday, October 10 – Friday, October 28 : Collect money from pledgees
• Friday, November 18 : Join us at the Prize Assembly at 8:45 am in the Great Room!

This is a community event that requires the participation of students, teachers and parents to be successful. We thank you in advance for your efforts, time and dedication to making our students’ experience at SWCS remarkable and right brain friendly!
