May is Walk+Bike to School Challenge Month!

walkbike2May is nearly here, and so is the Walk+Bike to School Challenge!

The Walk+Bike Challenge is a friendly competition aimed at encouraging more kids and families to walk and bike to and from school and throughout their neighborhoods.

Students will be given scorecards to track their progress through the month. Students who turn in their scorecards at the end of the month will qualify for prizes! A Grand Prize will be given to the student who bikes & walks the most, and all scorecards will be entered into a raffle. Grand Prize is a new bike helmet and the raffle for all participants will be gift certificates to Chipotle. If you need a score card, you can find one at the link below.

We would also like to encourage families to bike or walk to school on National Bike and Walk to School Day which is coming  up on May 6th! We will  have some SW Charter families that will be meeting up at locations in Sellwood and John’s Landing that morning, that you can join up with, and bike to school together.

We have a couple of parents that are leading groups that morning. If you’d like to lead a group from a different location (i.e. NE PDX), please send me an email and I’ll get your info added! (Christina Cartwrightcartwrightx7@gmail.com)

Sellwood/SE group – Sarah Gilmore fourgilmoresinpdx@gmail.com

John’s Landing/The River & Nebraska St – Sarah Mutal sarah@mutal.net

Willamette Park – Moanna Wright moannawright@gmail.com

Safe Routes to School made us a map of good places to drop off your child to walk and bike to school.

Thanks, and here’s to a healthy, active May!
